Our Song to Honour Cacao Spirit

About Sacred Cacao

Cacao is an Ancient Rainforest Medicine which works on all the levels of our Being and a Cacao Ceremony is a joyful empowering process. It is what we call a Teacher Plant – teacher plants are magical plants with a significant intelligence (or Plant Spirit) that we can communicate & work with and is a very mild form of psychoactive plant. Before we drink the Cacao, we awaken the Plant Spirit with this song

Properties of Cacao

According to some scientific research Cacao has a wide array of unique properties such as:

ANTIOXIDANTS

Cacao contains 10 grams of flavanol antioxidants per 100 grams, which is an incredible 10%. Research has also demonstrated that the antioxidants in Cacao are highly stable and easily available to human metabolism.

MAGNESIUM for the Heart and Brain

Cacao is the primary dietary source of magnesium which is important for a healthy functioning heart many other processes in the body, including regulating muscle and nerve function, blood sugar levels, and blood pressure. It also plays a key role in producing energy for the neurons in the brain from glucose, so when there is an abundance of magnesium the brain has more clarity and focus.

MOOD ELEVATORS & ANTI DEPRESSANTS

Cacao is a great source of serotonin, dopamine, anandamide and phenylethylamine (PEA), four well-studied neurotransmitters, which are associated with feelings of well being and help alleviate depression. Both PEA and anandamide (the bliss chemical) are found in abundance in the brains of happy people and are particularly released when we are feeling happy. Both of these neurotransmitters are present in cacao in large enough quantities to affect the brain and lift our moods.

About a Cacao Ceremony

imagen cacao.jpeg

The Cacao I use is imported directly to me from my Shaman in Guatemala, Izaias Mendoza and is called Lava Love.  It is grown in a biodynamic and organic way by the local Mayans who plant, grow and harvest it in ceremony. The pods are harvested in the rainforest and the beans are fermented rather than heated to high temperatures as in the production of normal chocolate which destroys the special properties. After this they are dried on racks then the nibs are separated from the husk and stone ground until smooth and then pressed into blocks.

When I am preparing the Cacao for a ceremony it is done in a sacred way and I bring it to you either as a hot spicey drink or chilled thick & indulgent. We invoke the presence of the Spirit of Cacao, honouring it with the song here and set our intentions for what we would like to receive from the experience and all drink together savouring the delicious richness as it moves through our body.  We then move into whatever practice, healing or experience follows.

Like any other psychoactive plant, the effects vary from person to person. In the first hour you may experience a little nausea, slight increase in heart rate, a dizziness or change of vision but these disappear as things move forward.  Cacao can also bring inner tranquility, intense colours, Oneness with All, high awareness and rapid thought flow.  What will the Plant have to teach you?  It’s all about setting your intention for healing, manifesting or guidance.
